Ababú works through the medium of Irish, and was established in November 2001. It is a Theatre in Education. Each spring and autumn we tour with a story-telling production, to Irish-medium nursery and primary schools. We produce a Christmas panto each year, which the Irish-medium sector enjoys, and which is available to tour throughout the North. Our offices are in Áras Mhic Reachtain, a cultural centre in the north of Belfast, which promotes the arts through the Irish language. Ababú hosts weekly drama workshops, in Áras, for children between the ages of four and eleven years of age.

In all of Ababú 's performances, the script incorporates themes that are closely linked to the primary curriculum.
Ababú has made a number of CDs for young children and their parents which contain rhymes and stories based on fairy stories and legends.
